THE COURSE

PROMOTION CHANGES THE JOB.

Most people who become managers in luxury earned the promotion by being excellent at the work. Then the role changes completely. You stop being judged only on your own performance and become accountable for the standards, decisions and behaviour of other people, often former colleagues.

Luxury makes that transition harder. Standards are exacting, mistakes happen in front of the client and performance cannot drift while a manager waits for the perfect moment to address it. Yet a heavy-handed manager can damage a small, close and experienced team very quickly.

Many new managers try to be liked until the first difficult conversation exposes the problem. Others overcorrect and lead through pressure. Neither creates respect, accountability or consistent performance.

This course teaches the work of management: setting expectations that hold, dealing with poor performance, giving feedback that changes behaviour, delegating without micromanaging and using power and authority deliberately rather than by accident.

WHO IT IS FOR

RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STANDARD.

Designed for people whose role makes them accountable for how a luxury team performs and how clients experience that performance. It works for first-time managers preparing for the transition and established leaders who want a more deliberate, credible approach.

  • Team leaders, supervisors, department heads and new managers
  • Boutique, hospitality, front-of-house and client-experience managers
  • Luxury retail, automotive, private-service and operational leaders

BY THE END

LEAD WITHOUT LOSING THE TEAM.

01Make the shift from doing the job to managing the people who do it, including former colleagues.

02Set expectations that stick and hold people accountable without aggression, nagging or drama.

03Identify poor performance early and distinguish between an employee who cannot and one who will not.

04Plan difficult conversations around the outcome required and hold them without escalating.

05Give feedback that changes behaviour and delegate without losing accountability or micromanaging.

06Choose deliberately between the forms of power and authority available to a luxury leader.

WHAT YOU WILL COVER

THE WORK OF LEADERSHIP.

The course contains 10 modules and approximately 105 short lessons. It addresses the decisions, conversations and people problems that define a manager, from the first shift in authority to accountability, performance, feedback and delegation.

Accountability for results, balancing business and people needs, representing the brand and understanding legal and ethical responsibilities.

Team dynamics, vision, trust, standards, decision-making and leading through change and pressure.

Why clarity beats niceness, how to secure follow-through and how to hold people accountable without aggression.

Early identification, can’t versus won’t, evidence-based feedback, action plans, monitoring, documentation and appropriate HR involvement.

Establishing authority, resetting boundaries, managing alliances and favouritism, and earning respect after promotion.

Competence, fairness, calm under pressure, keeping promises, owning mistakes and avoiding overfamiliarity.

The forms of power and authority available to a leader, their ethical use and their effect on teams and luxury clients.

Planning the outcome, regulating emotion, lowering defensiveness, listening without losing direction and holding firm.

Timing, privacy, behaviour rather than personality, reinforcing change and making feedback part of everyday culture.

Choosing the right task and person, setting checkpoints, letting go while staying accountable and learning when delegation fails.
